Model house by alarm clockSelling a home can be a stressful experience, especially when you consider all of the little things that you need to watch for, in order to make sure that you get the most money for the home that you’ve built over the years. One particular aspect that people get hung up on is if now is the right time to sell, or whether they should wait and try to sell the home when market conditions improve. This shouldn’t be your top priority to consider when selling a home, but there are still some factors that you can look at to see if now is a good or bad time to sell your home…

People buy more in the warmer months

Based on reports released by Zillow, people tend to look at more homes in the warmer seasons, such as spring and summer. Because of this, you should have your home ready to list in spring, if you are looking for the right time of the year to sell. During the summer, it is likely that demand will go up, which means that you can get a better deal. This also means that winter is a great time to conduct repairs and additions to a home that you are preparing to sell.

Look at the overall market

You shouldn’t make too large of a deal of whether or not it is a buyer’s or seller’s market. If you are making money on a home that you bought years ago, then you’ve done incredibly well. However, it doesn’t hurt to look at the roller coaster of the market and see if you are at a peak or a valley of home values. Sometimes, holding off for a couple months might help you get to a better market condition, but you shouldn’t stress this too much.

Don’t avoid moving when you should because it isn’t the right time

Most importantly, the best time to sell your home is when it is time for your family to go to a new one. Obviously market factors are going to have an influence of whether or not you are going to move, because that what the market is measuring. However, you shouldn’t put off important family developments, such as moving, just because you think you should wait until the right season to sell. The best time to sell your home is when you’re ready, and everything else should come second.
