National Underwriting Manager

The National Underwriting Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of underwriters on the underwriting team that performs underwriting of Conventional conforming, non-conforming and Government loans in a timely manner for completeness and compliance with Citywide Home Loan guidelines. In this role, you will underwrite and review submitted files to analyze for Capacity, Capital, Character, and Condition. This includes ensuring that loan requests meet program and product specifications or counteroffer to a different product and/or program when appropriate. In addition, you will communicate decision (approval, suspense, denial) to appropriate individuals within Citywide Home Loans, uphold fair lending practices of Citywide, quality and customer satisfaction, and perform a second review of contract underwritten denials.

They will provide training, guidance, and support for all team members to maintain company quality standards. Manage, direct, and implement underwriting/operational strategies and objectives to ensure the achievement of Citywide’s corporate values to deliver high-quality loan decisions in accordance with credit policy and support superior customer service levels.

Responsibilities:

Partner with Compliance and Quality Control to ensure alignment and achievement of risk profile and goals.
  • Review and maintain guidelines to stay up-to-date with all requirements.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years management experience.
  • Strong supervisory skills
  • Experience managing a diversified Mortgage Underwriting Operation with strong technical, business and managerial skills.
  • Seven + years manual mortgage underwriting experience required.
  • Experience with underwriting loans $1.5 M+.
  • Conforming, government (prefer LAPP/DE) product experience a must. FHA DE; VA LAP designations preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of complex personal and business financial analysis and an expertise in tax return and balance sheet analysis, including both cash flow and AGI methods
  • Thorough knowledge of MI policies
  • Knowledge and proficiency in all levels of mortgage underwriting including Government, Agency, Purchase, Refi, Jumbo and Super Jumbo lending
